TAFE Students Bound for Nationals

The Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) held their annual State TAFE Conference in Dallas, Texas on March 3rd – 5th, 2022.  Participating in the State competition were over 2000 students from over 200 schools.  Students worked throughout the year on a variety of contests topics and preparations.  The students representing their school have gone through at least two prior rounds of contest for the honor of representing the school at State and the chance to advance to the National round of competition.

Adrian ISD had the privilege of sending 14 students to compete at the State level.  Our students competed against all students in the state of Texas, regardless of school classification.  AISD students who advanced to state included:

  1. Kiersen Green, senior, who competed in Education Leadership Fundamentals Test (ELF).
  2. Bailey Balderaz, junior, who competed in Impromptu Lesson Plan, Educational Leadership and Fundamentals Test (ELF).  Bailey earned a bronze at state.
  3. Hanna Gruhlkey, junior, who competed in Public Speaking.
  4. Banessa Salas and Janessa Salas, juniors, who competed in Children’s Literature K-3 where they authored and illustrated their own children’s book.
  5. Morgan Broaddus, junior, who competed in Exploring Administrative Careers.
  6. Macy Gilley, junior, who competed in Lesson Planning – STEM, and Job Interview.
  7. Chris Sanchez, freshman, who competed in Children’s Literature K-3 where he authored and illustrated his own children’s book.
  8. Blake Balderaz, freshmen, who competed in Interactive Bulletin Board (Secondary) and earned a bronze at State
  9. Jazzelle Salas and Caitlin Owens, freshmen, who competed in Teacher Created Materials (Elementary) and Project Visualize (Community Service).  The girls earned a silver at State.
  10. Ridley Wells, 8th Grade, who competed in Educator’s Rising Moment.
  11. Jackie Reyes, 7th Grade, who competed in Teacher Created Materials and received gold at State.

Of the 14 students who competed for Adrian ISD, four were selected to advance to the National round of competition.  This final round will be held in Washington D.C. this summer.  Students advancing are Hanna Gruhlkey, Macy Gilley, Chris Sanchez, and Ridley Wells.  Congratulations to these Adrian ISD students and best of luck as you continue to prepare for the next level of competition!

In addition we want to say thank you Mr. and Mrs. Clifton for helping and co-sponsoring these students. Additional thanks to the AISD Administration for your support!
