Student Service Grows

On Thursday, September 16th the Adrian Chapter of the National Honor Society held its annual induction ceremony.  The ceremony features the inauguration of the new officers as well as the induction of new members.  Friends, family, Adrian faculty, and administration all joined in to help celebrate this distinguished accomplishment.

The Adrian Chapter of the National Honor Society, commonly called NHS, was founded in 1995.  This year the group has 4 returning members and inducted 5 new members.

The National Honor Society is based upon four main principles: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character.  These pillars are emphasized in their pledge and seen through the actions of the group.  NHS is primarily as service organization that works to improve the community and school where the chapters are located.  Additionally, local chapters are part of a larger National Organization which works to improve and serve our country as a whole.

Joe Rico, a new member of the group inducted at the ceremony, said became interested in the group when he found out about their service orientation.  “I found out you can do projects…working with the elderly in the community”.  Joe has spent time with his mother who works at a nursing home in Hereford, and it was there he fell in love with helping the elderly and listening to their stories.  “I enjoy listening to them tell stories.  They’re very funny,” said Joe when asked about his experience.

The Adrian chapter has not been extremely active lately, however; the new officers plan on changing that.  They have already begun planning different events and activities throughout the year including cleaning the highway, starting a Pals program with the elementary, and sponsoring a blood drive in the spring.  Newly inaugurated President Kiersen Green said, “QUOTE”.

This group of students is setup and ready to serve their communities.  Since Adrian ISD is made up of students from the surrounding areas they have many opportunities to serve.  If you’re in need of help don’t hesitate to reach out to the group or Mr. Clifton, their adviser, to see if we’re available.
